31 October-3 November 2024

Professor Olga Zayts-Spence, Associate Professor at HKU's School of English and Director of HKU RIICH, shared her health communication research findings at the 3rd Peking University International Conference on Medical Humanities, part of the Beijing Forum. Her talk, “Could Applied Linguistic Research be Interventionist?”, discussed how health communication can serve as real-world intervention. Drawing on data from her recent projects on graduates' career transitions during and after COVID-19, she highlighted translating academic insights into practical resources like infographics and videos on Graduate Mindmap. She aims to support students, staff, and workplaces, expanding her research to the Greater Bay Area. Awarded over HK$5.4m from the Hong Kong Research Grants Council, her team is developing a digital hub with interactive content and workshops on mental health, resilience, and workplace skills, to be launched in 2025. Professor Zayts-Spence emphasized ongoing efforts to foster impactful, translational research for health and career support.
